Easy Pinterest Recipes at Home
Pinterest recipes are my go-to. When Dom worked the night shift, I would eat dinner by myself throughout the week. It was my opportunity to try out all the recipes I found before serving them to him. Glass half full, right? 😉 When the weekend rolled around, dinner turned into date night at home. It was one of the only times we could spend together.
Dom’s hours are a bit more regular now and we eat together almost every night, but we still love making that time intentional. Sitting at the table instead of in front of the tv, talking about our day and dreaming about the future- it’s become something we both look forward to.
A while back, I stumbled across an article talking about how women in the 1950s used to prepare for their husbands to come home from work. It was an interesting read, so I decided to try a few of the tips- having dinner prepared upon Dom’s arrival, picking up any clutter around the apartment, freshening up, and not greeting him with complaints from the day.
I play his favorite blues radio station, set the table, spruce up my hair, add a touch of lipstick, and have dinner ready to serve as best I can. Dom noticed the change right away. He told me the new routine really allows him to decompress after work and makes a huge difference. Now I understand how much he needs to unwind.
The change sparked something in me, too. As crazy as it sounds, putting these tips into practice brought so much excitement into ordinary days. I began to feel like we were dating again. It also made me realize how much I complained (it was a lot). Right when Dom walked in the door, I’d immediately start venting. I had no idea how much it affected my husband. After becoming aware of it and stopping, we’re both so much happier. The atmosphere is light and airy. There’s something to be said about learning from past generations.
Here are our favorite (husband approved) Pinterest recipes (and a couple cocktails)!
I’ve personally tried them all and give them two thumbs up. YUM! If you have a staple recipe or two, send them my way!
